“If any of you put a stumbling block before one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be better for you if a great millstone were hung around your neck and you were thrown into the sea.
What a powerful and very blunt gospel. They are pretty graphic and frightening words. He wants us to understand over and over again, the choices we make every day will determine our eternal future. They affect the peace and stability in this world, and our outcome when we die. That is pretty direct as well. Our choices determine our peace, happiness, physical and mental health. Do we ever stop and reflect on the choices we make? The Lord is telling us; there is a justice, there is a judgment, and there is a hell. We are to be salted (purified) and trusting by faith alone. I would imagine it would be better to crawl into heaven then walk into hell. We are called to be disciples, to take up the cross. To follow him, to live our lives to honor and trust in the Lord. To build those blocks that lead to the stairway of heaven.
He chose, Peter to lead his Church. I poor fisherman. He chose him over a much more educated Saul of Taursus (Paul) – and Peter denied him 3 times. How often do we deny him? When we face trials and tribulations in our lives, do we deny him. When the devil tempts us do we deny him? Peter seeped bitterly after denying him. Jesus loved and trusted Peter. Are we giving Jesus the reason to love and trust us?
Be blessed!!!
