Are we like Thomas? I would say we are. We all have doubt, and at times I’m sure confusion. Faith allows us to believe in something we haven’t seen. What inspires us to be present at Holy Mass? It is undoubtedly our deep faith in Jesus. When we see this faith, it inspires us. If that is the case why do we allow distractions to take us away from mass? Less than 20% of Catholics attend mass regularly. Those are dismal numbers. We let distractions cloud our faith : I don’t like the priest homily, that music isn’t traditional, and so much more. We create our own problems. When we deny ourselves the ability to be present at the Holy Mass we are just like Thomas, this doubt takes away our ability to seek an intimate relationship.

I was reading this morning of a family that lost a high school daughter to heroin addiction. She was 17. I know what my own parents faced when my brother was killed by a drunk driver. It changed our family forever. That family experienced so many hardships so have we. They relied on faith and a personal involvement to educate others. Tragically the wife to was killed a year later in a terrible car accident. The husband is all that is left. He is an incredibly strong man, because he said my faith gets me through day to day, plus his wife always told him “If something happens to me, you must be strong and go on.” Do we? We don’t know, those answers are hard. This life is filled with joys and sorrow, success and failure, love and forgiveness, hate and jealousy. Can we survive? Faith!!!
